I have tried to find information in regards to this but a source is seemingly absent, maybe I am not digging deep enough or looking in the right places. Anyways, I am wondering if anyone could tell me what the first AR headset capable of placing 3-dimensional “holograms” in your environment, and gave you the capability to walk around them and was not simply a HUD was. In essence, the first Hololens style device before the HL or original Meta came into existence. I’m pretty sure virtual fixtures, a device developed in 1992 by the US military could put what you would call rudimentary 3D computer generated graphics in front of you but to the best of my knowledge did not possess 6dof tracking and allow you to place the objects in your environment like the Hololens and physically walk around them. They were stationary and fixed to your head movement. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m almost positive the Meta 1, unveiled in 2013 was the first commercially available Hololens type device that allowed you to place computer generated 3D imagery in your environment with 6dof tracking, containing the capability of anchoring the “holograms” in your environment and allowing you to physically walk around them as opposed to essentially being a hud. I’m wondering that if the Meta 1 was the first variant of such a device that was publicly available, if I’m correct on that assumption, was it also the first of it’s kind to ever exist at all, and if it isn’t then what is?
