So I know virtually nothing about AR. I am a 3ds Max user and I what I know is mostly about modeling, texturing, rendering, and some animation basics. I want to add AR to my skill set so that I can keep moving forward in my career development, but I don’t know where to begin.
- What is important hardware-wise? I’m about to purchase a new computer, but I’m not sure what are the most important specs to emphasize. Do I need the latest (and seemingly unattainable) graphics card? Or just an ass-load or RAM? Is CPU MHz important, or is it really about threads/cores? Should I just buy something off the shelf and forget about going down the PC build rabbit hole?
- What are the best learning resources? Yes, I know Youtube exists. But do I start with coding? Should I learn C++/C# foundations or move directly to how these work within a platform like Unreal or Unity? I have some foundation in coding, but it’s Javascript, so not really super relevant.
- AR developers: where is there room for growth in the marketplace? What kinds of projects should I work on developing to demonstrate mastery to potential clients/employers? What are the things you wish you’d learned sooner than later?
I realize I may be a significant way from my goal, but I want to start off in the right direction.
