Geo location based app
Hi, I’m trying to build an AR app for my engineer’s thesis. It should show a 3D model on given coordinates (something like worldcast.io). I was trying to use Google’s GeoSpatial API but I have no idea how to change that compass to a different 3D model since sceneform is depreciated. I will be grateful for any hints or any other SDK’s I can use (I’ve tried many).

Augmented Reality for Mechanical Services
Hi, I’m looking for advice please. We manufacture and install ventilation systems. I would like to be able to take a 3d model and see it in position on site so our team and other trades have a clear view of how it is to be installed.
I don’t think using trackers will be an option as the ducting passes through different rooms, or is often at high level, 5 to 10 meters above the ground.
The 3d models don’t exist for these systems, I would be modelling them in either 3ds max or sketchup.
I’d like to trial a system first before spending a lot of money to make sure its beneficial.
We could use tablets to view the AR, if the system worked well we could look at using some sort of headset.
Any advice welcome!
Thanks

Skills for an aspiring AR designer?
Hi all! So I’m super interested in learning how to design for AR. I’m originally an architect turned graphic designer so I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch, I just need to learn some new skills. What do you think I should learn? I already know some Maya for 3d modeling and have started playing with Spark AR. Thank you!

Green Screen AR Passthrough with your Virt-a-Mate model using Quest 2
Currently it’s black and white passthrough on Quest 2, but take a look at the example video below. It’s pretty mind blowing to be in the same room as the model you create in VaM and even pretending you’re fucking her.
https://i.imgur.com/1Q0PC8H.mp4 (Warning: Very NSFW!)
Here’s how you set this up using ALVR/ALXR:
- Install and run the ALVR server code on your PC that you’re running VaM on
https://github.com/alvr-org/ALVR/releases/download/v18.2.3/ALVR_Installer_v18.2.3.exe
- Sideload the modified ALXR apk to your Oculus Quest 2 — this uses green for passthrough instead of black:
- Make sure you’ve downloaded the camera background color changer plugin:
https://hub.virtamate.com/resources/camera-background-color.24185/download
-
On your PC, launch VaM
-
Once you’re in VaM, use the Left Menu + Right B button combination.
-
Now add the background color changer plugin as a Scene plugin and set it to a shade of green that you’d like to use for passthrough.
This will fill in the green areas with passthrough and make the model look like she’s in your room. You can also try Left Menu + Right A button which will blend both and make her appear like a ghost.
Note: You may need to adjust the exact shade of green you’re using to prevent the model from having too much of a green outline. Unfortunately some green outline is unavoidable due to using this method but it can almost eliminated. Have fun!
