Best Android device for AR?

Looking at getting a newer phone while the black Friday deals are going on. Not ready to commit to an iPhone even though I know they are objectively better for AR.

Information on it is sparse. Purely from an ARCore support standpoint, my current device supports more features than the newer ones. More specifically I have a Time of Flight sensor on my current device, but they stopped putting those on newer ones.

I realize the differences may be small as Google in general has stopped doing much development on the AR side of things, but my current device struggles with simpler AR tasks and it would be a huge quality of life upgrade if I could get some of that basic functionality back.

Looking for things even as small as slightly more up to date/more accurate sensors. I imagine other than the camera they don’t tend to update that stuff often. Even anecdotal evidence/opinions is helpful!

AR Anchors

From a user’s perspective, how was it to use Google’s Cloud Anchors or Microsoft’s Spatial Anchors? Smooth?

How long to scan an average size room?

Would it be fairly straightforward for the average mobile user to generate an anchor? Assuming they’re not tech savvy.

Thanks!

This is my vision for an AR friendly computer/keyboard/trackpad/drawing tablet. Plugs into a pair of AR glasses or a monitor. Compatible with mixed reality headsets also. Folded design and internal battery makes it extremely portable.

Is developing an AR app possible on the Integrated graphics of a laptop?

I am a student pursuing Computer Science with Interaction Design as a specialisation. I want to create AR apps as a hobby parallelly. So developers, who have at least created simple AR apps, what configuration a laptop must have to develop AR apps? &#… Augmented Reality & /u/karankakati

One of the cooler things I’ve scanned for AR recently – an authentic Titanic deck chair that was recovered floating in the water after the ship sank. I have a passion for preserving history. This was loaned to me by a friend – more info in the comments.
