I want to be able to walk my dog in the winter, with a screen in front of me that runs Outlook and Firefox. Voice control. Need a broadband connection. What’s my best device right now?

1. Lightweight – must look and feel like normal glasses.
2. 12 hr minimum battery life assuming average load (not at standby).
3. The ability to wirelessly connect to your phone and to use your phone as the „brains“ while your phone’s screen is off. I’m fine not having a password on my phone if necessary for this. Don’t think that should be necessary, given how smart watches work.
4. A custom UI that shows things like directions or time as HUD elements rather than just showing your phone as an AR projection.
5. 60 deg FOV
6. At least 90% transparency. Bonus if it’s transition (extra points if XTRActive transition polarization) and offers blue-light protection.

Massive bonus points if I can use Alexa with it to request certain AR elements to be brought up (e.g. asking for a weather report or a recipe and seeing that on the glasses).

Also bonus points if I can use gestures to do things like move AR HUD elements around.

I’m not looking to do things like have fights out in a field with AR monsters, or simulate 3D objects that aren’t really there. I don’t think I even particularly care about watching movies or playing traditional PC games. I’m basically looking for a daily driver that just offers a useful HUD experience.

Hey everyone

I’m thinking about working on a new project; a portable, high quality cyberdeck (cyberpunk themed sized portable computer), and I thought it’d be cool to only be able to use it wearing AR glasses. That’s cyberpunk as hell 😀

Problem – it’s SO HARD to understand what AR glasses allow a simple video feed into them. It seems so many of them need to be connected to a mobile phone and rely on an app or something?

I’m going to be running a raspberry pi with god knows what operating system, but my ideal is just being able to plug a video cable from the pi and into the glasses, and I can manage generating the stereo images.

Does this exist, or are they all dependent on android os and proprietary apps?
