Which have you used more? VR or AR?

I’m curious to know because VR is considerably less accessible price wise, but is more widely known across mainstream culture.

AR can be used for free like using social media camera filters but is definitely lesser known.

drop your answer below and any additional thoughts or reasoning you’d like to add to the conversation.

AR glasses build kit?

Hey guys, I am wondering if there is a build kit (hardware) I could buy to test a potential product out with? I’m basically trying to put an AR setup in a specific type of eyewear. submitted by /u/Anonant3186 [link] [comments] Augmented Reality & /u/Anonant3186

ELI5 what’s the de facto tool to make AR Experiences?

in AR, unlike game-dev or VR, there seems to be no single tool/engine/platform as a de facto AR platform.

  • There is unity and a plethora of AR plugins and toolkits for it.
  • There is Unreal Engine, which as an Unreal Engine developer, I say AR sucks in Unreal.
  • There are Javascript Libraries/frameworks for WebAR such as AR.JS, Three.js,…
  • There are many websites offering easy AR tools/templates for webAR, charging monthly subscriptions.
  • There are people who swear by lens studio/SparkAR. but I see them mainly as Face Filter AR tools (and you’re bound to publish your AR only in their apps)

I’m looking for a feature-rich, but a beginner-friendly platform, dedicated to AR-dev where you can deploy your AR experiences as Mobile apps or WebAR.

Help with unity and vuforia

Hi there, i was wo dering if anybody in here would be kind enough to help me out with a problem. I’m currently trying to create a simple AR app with an image target using vuforia. The thing is, i haven’t been able to pin point the problem at the momento of built the app.

So far, everytime i click on build, every object dissappears and get deleted from the hierarchy tab. Additionally, the app that ends up getting build is just a freeze image of the sky tab (image added to show what i mean).

Anyway, I’ve been looking for answers everywhere and so far nothing has helped. So maybe somebody in here could guide me? Help me pin point the error? Show me a tutorial tha i haven’t find yet to solve the problem?

I know this is a boring and limited use of AR, but is there a headset / glasses that would allow me to replace my three computer monitors?

For example, at work, I typically like to have my Outlook open on one screen, excel open in the middle screen, and powerpoint open on the third screen. Is there anything that would support this? Everything I’ve seen suggests that this is not currently possible.

Pointers for an "old newbie" wanting to get back into AR

I’ve just joined this group. I experimented with AR many years ago when it was in its infancy. Now I want to get back to it but realize the tools and process has evolved considerably. I want to start by placing my flat artwork in various locations with some accompanying text, both indoors and outside. Can anyone point me to an updated primer or suggest applications to begin experimenting with. I have an iPhone, iPad, and iMac. I’d also like viewers to be able to access this AR in the simplest way. I’ve been checking out various apps but can’t get a read on which might be a good place to start.

One small project I want to start with is to place a „brass plaque“ I’ve created in Photoshop on a specific wall inside a specific building.

I’d appreciate any pointers for this re-newbie. Thx.
