Hi, I’m a 3d modeler, I use Maya(beginner) Zbrush, 3ds Max, and substance. I want to develop AR for education but when I try to investigate what is the path to get there is very confusing.

What programs should I use to develop AR?

Is there a big difference in the way AR and VR are developed?

How long it takes to make an acceptable work?

can you please guide me on what or where should I start investigating?

Hey everyone, I’m not the most versed in AR or in computer sciences so ill just get right to it.

If my goal is to have an AR projection attached to a physical object, do the distance constraints only depend on the abilities of the camera? Meaning if the camera can see the object I’m trying to pin the projection to it will work? But if the object is too far away to be recognizable then it wouldn’t work?

If that is the case like I assume, is there a way around these constraints? What if the physical object was made out of brighter material so its more visible?

Or is there even a possibility of having some type of overlord software that knows the location of the object (via tracking or some other means), and it will automatically project the AR creation on the point when it recognizes it being within the cameras field of view?

I demoed the holens a few years ago and thought it was amazing. A truly revolutionary technology unlike the latest iteration of your smart phone. I also see a huge number of business use cases for it.

At the University of Cambridge, UK, we are developing a conceptual framework to help make VR/AR/MR systems safer, more transparent, and more compliant – this is important as we start to move such systems from the entertainment industry and into more ‚high-risk‘ ones such as surgery, manufacturing, aerospace, engineering, etc.

We are looking for VR/AR/MR devs to participate in our study. As a participant, you will have a one-on-one call with me, the study lead. You will be asked to work through a couple of exercises/scenarios and then answer some questions. You will not need any VR/AR/MR equipment, but you will need an external monitor.

We are not evaluating anyone – we are only looking for feedback to both validate and help improve our framework.

Saw that NREAL could do this but they aren’t releasing in America anytime soon, so do you all have any recommendations?
