Why wont this seemingly easy solution to AR work? I’m sure it would have been done by now if it could.
I guess this is sort of a way to „cheat“ augmented reality but its a thought I’ve had in my head for a bit now.
Obviously mobile VR exists and works decently as a quick and cheap entry into VR so why can’t we use the same technology to create AR? My thought is that if you can show the phones camera through a VR display and put the phone into something like Google Cardboard couldn’t you simply overlay things on top of the display?
Its not really true augmented reality because what you’re seeing is entirely virtual but the environment is a feed from actual reality.
Feel free to laugh at me for being uneducated if this is just completely stupid.

Does another platform similar to Spark AR exist?
Was thinking of using IG-styled filters in a retail environment which requires custom workflow to “handle” the end result. Does another AR platform exist that focuses on face filter? submitted by /u/leo-g [link] [comments] Augmented Reality & /u/leo-g
Is there a way to watch a movie on a headset while still being able to see the world around you?
I’d love to be able to watch a movie while out on a long run. My thoughts are that I could use something like Oculus‘ passthrough to be able to see what’s around me and either displaying a transparent movie, or have it play in a corner. Is there a solution out there for this? Thanks for any direction you can give me!
