ARCore Cloud Anchor Testing
| |
Hi! I’ve been developing an idea for an AR app over the last year or so. I previously built a basic prototype using Vuforia but decided that I really needed the ability to save my AR objects and share them across user sessions. So, I’ve been testing ARCore Cloud Anchors. To the best of my knowledge this is the only cross platform solution presently? ARkit is iOS only and the various SDK’s I’ve checked don’t provide any support. Anyway, I made a video of my tests. It works well. But, clearly still quite experimental. The 24 hour limit on anchors likely to be removed at some point. But, the process is still fairly cumbersome in order to scan a scene, interact with cloud API and so on. What are you thoughts? Anyone building anything interesting with Cloud Anchors at the moment? Is there any software that use ML to generate 3D models?

Any idea on how it works? Like is there a qr code on the screen or something like that? does the camera identifies a image on the stage and triggers the animations? I need to make something like this but i’m not sure on how mobile camera could identify a anchor point so far away like on this stage.

People who work with augmented reality, can it be used to construct a world around you similar to VR, but using the real world?
Like if I have a corridor in VR, using say, a VIVE, I can’t walk too far forward as I’ll hit something. But could AR be used to create the world instead, using your real world as a basis for surfaces?
What would be the challenges of doing this? Would markers need to be reinvented?
Etc.
Thanks!

Questions for selecting AR programs
Hi all,
I was hoping that users of different AR programs could help me find the right program to fit some requirements.
The project requires real life tags (QR, patterns..) to produce a pop up of a model, animation or information window.
I have used Adobe Aero, Augment and a few others but I can’t find a program that will save a pattern to a function without having to set up the scene every time.
Ideally the app would recognise the pattern and produce the model/function from start up.
Of course I’m looking for a free program which shoots down the majority of programs, but programs that offer free development and charge for publishing would be great.
Thanks for your time guys.

Crediting CC-BY models in AR (and VR)?
What’s the typical, acceptable way to give proper credit for creative commons attribution models used for an AR/VR scene?
First part is- where? I’m working with AR.js and A-Frame at the moment, so users follow a web link to get to the scene. Is it acceptable to have a main text based web page with links to the AR/VR pages and include a text based „About“ page with credits? Any problem that users could be following a QR code direct to the content? Somehow embedding credits into the scene doesn’t really seem practical, so I’m thinking a seperated web page for credits.
Second part is – how/who? If I’m pulling models from Sketchfab (for example) all I have to go on is a user name, which often isn’t a real/legal name. I assume just referencing those user names and the website is sufficient? Can I list „Models from Sketchfab.com created by AUser1, UserB2, …“ Or do I need links direct to the model page?
What’s standard practice?
