Research Topic

Hello,

TLDR; please suggest research topics that will help me become an AR expert

This summer, I will be completing a research seminar as a final step in a degree in computer science. I will be required to choose a topic, and submit a thorough research paper covering the subject. My goal is to start a career in augmented reality development, and I’m particularly interested in technology that enhances the workflow of a hands on user, such as a warehouse order picker or a surgeon.

For a couple of years, I’ve known that I wanted to choose something related to Augmented Reality. I’ve chosen my electives to prepare me as much as possible for AR dev. I also plan to develop an augmented reality app that is both related to my topic and leverages what I learn.

I know that the topic will be something related to AR, but I’m still unsure about which topic to choose specifically.

Ideally, it would:

  • teach me practical knowledge that I can use in my career
  • has ample existing, ongoing research that I can access

I would love to choose a topic that gave me insights into how AR actually works, „under the hood“ so to speak. I have already taken a class in Computer Vision, so maybe something that bridges that with AR. I have considered spatial computing as an option, but this is still probably too broad.

I would infinitely appreciate any suggestions or guidance.

Community AR Project

Hey guys, I am completely new to AR. I live in a town with a lot of different murals around. I was wondering how I could go about making an AR experience for the town using the murals. Any advice at all would be appreciated! Thank you! submitted… Augmented Reality & /u/Murky_Recognition906

Pigletz is a collectible game with DeFi elements. It is built around the main character – the Piglet, an NFT having a utility as a piggy bank where users can deposit crypto tokens and earn PiFi. You can active boosters with depositing tokens in your Piglet. Pigletz are items. A contemporary version of a piggy bank. An item that can exist in the MetaVerse. And also can exist in the real world. But not in both. Each Piglet starts its life randomly minted and at level 1. Being at level 1 means that only some of its treats are revealed.

They are having pretty good content in their YouTube Channel and uploading interesting videos about NFT’s, Crypto and all news about the project. Subscribe to help their young and ambitious team.

GESTURE CONTROL of external LIGHTS via DMX

I’m looking for any company or developer who has created a way to control LEDs using hand gestures in AR. Specifically, professional LEDs like Astera Titans that respond to commands via DMX.

I’m assuming that the best solution will be hand gestures read by sensors in headsets like the HoloLens 2. But I’m asking now for any leads or links to developers focused on controlling lights using industry-standard protocols, like DMX.

Any suggestions, leads, links will be appreciated. I’ll explore them and report back here.

Related question: is this reddit the best place to ask this question? Or are their other forums or communities I should join? I’m trying to find people who are already on the cutting edge of using AR for controlling lights.

Tech Stack suggestion for AR app with these requirements

Hi all, me and my team are looking into building an AR application with these requirements:

  1. Cross platform (Android + iOS)
  2. Ability to place 2D objects like signs and 3D objects on planes, that will save their exact position, so when another user comes with a different device, they can see the object appropriately.
  3. Placed objects should be tolerant to small environment changes, for example change of color of the area that they were incorporated.
  4. Ability for signs to be interactive: display text when touched and maybe play sounds or videos
I am not sure how challenging these requirements are since I don’t have any experience, so any comments are welcome.
We are looking for suggestions on tools that are good options for our use case. I looked into Viro React, but it seems that the project has more or less been abandoned and has issues with iOS.Unity looks like a good option, with plugins like AR Foundation, Vuforia and ARToolkit, but I am not sure which one is the better option. Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.
