Like the title says, I received a tour at an AR proof of concept at a nearby innovation lab. I do HVAC and was on the job-site, the AR people were super cool and asked me if I wanted to see firsthand what AR is. I agreed and my mind was blown. I asked them why i've never seen this stuff in real life before and they said its because they have a private 5G core for their lab which allows them to have the required network/ data speeds for the real-time experiences.
My question to this subreddit is, what are some AR experiences/apps/hardware I could purchase to experience this on my own? Is there AR things available? Or is it something that is down the road?
Prior to this I had only done Pokemon Go which isn't really that impressive, in my opinion.
Things I did in the lab:
AR furniture assembly instructions (it could identify which parts were which and showed me how to assemble it from scratch.
AR human anatomy where a ligament/muscle overlay was placed upon me which they said would be used in physical therapy and rehabilitation settings
AR argriculture (gave visuals to show which plants needed to be watered and other key metrics for the plants... this was a video PoC, I didn't actually experience)
AR vehicle wayfinding/navigation on roads via windsheild
I went home feeling like AR was going to change the world, so I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of real-life, currently available interesting AR that isn't just a novelty (like Pokemon Go)?
Any suggestions? Or any things you have seen being developed that you think is impressive?
