I am currently in my final year of study at university which means it's time to produce my final major project. I am using hoping to produce an AR application for the final outcome but just need some information. I am producing an application which will help those who are visually impaired during the pandemic as daily tasks have become harder e.g social distancing, university classes moving online, shopping etc.

Before i start this task I would like to know if it is possible for a handheld device (mobile) to scan an image of a texture and recognise what material its made out of and or give possible references to patterns and colour?
