I have empathy for all the people who work there who just lost their job or their coworkers. Anyone I knew personally at magic leap was intelligent and passionate. Say what you will about the product, the people were good.
Now with that said, the statement from Magic Leap seemed to sort of blame COVID for a change in investor’s appetites and a need to pivot to enterprise. It feels like the need to pivot to enterprise was obvious for several years now. I don’t think it is because of COVID that investors won’t pour more money into a suboptimal investment. I found blaming COVID to be so distasteful. Perhaps I’m wrong though. Would love to hear other people’s thoughts.
