The results of the Augmented reality survey taken here a bit more than a week ago

Hello all!

Honestly, I’ve come to love this community over the past few days, I’ve never seen a group of people more passionate, or excited about something so awesome! and I hope to someday share the knowledge and experience you all have.

I took a survey about people’s opinions on AR a few days ago, and I’m here to share the results. The survey was split into two parts, one for people sharing a more in-depth knowledge about technology, and one for people who do not have a deep comprehension, or experience in the area.

Below I have put a link to the results of the survey, and I would just like to thank your guys‘ contribution, it’s a small survey, with most responses being from this community and a few other tech-focus communities here on reddit.

Augmented Reality Survey

I am still working on my project, since I have to look for subject experts now (if anyone here would like to help me out, I’d be honored)

AR help required

Hi All,

I hate posting this question, but I’ve been researching the past few days to no avail.

I am looking for guidance on a project I want to build. With regards to AR, it’s best to say I have no experience, but am keen to learn, and know a bit about software so not a complete noob.

I am hoping to build an application for an android device that when I view an electrical cabinet, will identify the cabinet and overlay some text to identify specific components and provide details on them.

So far I’ve been tinkering with Unity and Vuforia, and have had some accidental success with AR, but am not sure if I’m on the right path.

I am correct to use unity and Vuforia?

can anyone provide some steps to help me along?

The panels range in size, but the biggest would be 4ft wide X 8ft tall. Iam not looking to identify specific components using cv, but identify the target panel and overlay the the text components that I would predefine.

I Hope this makes sense, and thanks in advance for any help

Project help!!

I am currently in my final year of study at university which means it’s time to produce my final major project. I am using hoping to produce an AR application for the final outcome but just need some information. I am producing an application which will help those who are visually impaired during the pandemic as daily tasks have become harder e.g social distancing, university classes moving online, shopping etc.

Before i start this task I would like to know if it is possible for a handheld device (mobile) to scan an image of a texture and recognise what material its made out of and or give possible references to patterns and colour?

Many thanks in advance!

Somebody using greyboxing (or other gamedev prototyping approaches)?

Hi all 🙂

Is there some designer / developer actively using greyboxing or other approaches and methods from gamedesign for creating immersive applications AND who wants to share their experiences? I was wondering about how those are applied for developing AR (MR/VR).

Background of my question: I’m doing my PHD in prototyping for XR and currently investigating in some techniques practitioners like to apply for development. DM me for more info.
