Aspiring Visual Communication Designer seeking advice

Hey guys,

I’ve been following this community for a while now in order to get research and resources for my pre thesis project. We have been asked re imagine an exhibition space and the role Immersive technologies would play in the same. I have ideated on a few scenarios on this topic and have been searching for ways to communicate these scenarios in a rather visual and interactive way.

I plan on designing illustrated digital postcards that essentially visually tell some sort of a story once you hover your camera over it. So it’s basically a postcard as a medium of storytelling. I was initially planning on making the illustrations on Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop and then use Adobe Aero to add that AR responsiveness to it, but I’m unsure about whether it’ll be able to animate or play my designs in a certain sequence. Any leads as to what softwares I can use to execute something like this? Would really appreciate some responses. Thanks!

Unity or native Android Studio for location based Arcore game?

Hi all, I’ve plenty of experience with Android/ Java but almost none with Unity. I’ve already had a play around with Arcore by following a few Youtube tutorials but then had a look at one AR tutorial on Unity and things seemsed a lot easier.

I’d like to create a location based game where users enter an area within a certain latitude and longitude that triggers the AR. For me to create the same thing in Java would require setting up classes for different Objects and a class to handle the Location etc. I could most likely do all this but if Unity simplifies things for me then it would be a better choice.

I know Unity comes with a lot of bloatware that makes app sizes large but someone who can afford an arcore enabled phone I don’t think is worried about data uses.

Any help?

AR Android App for placing letters in the landscape or on surfaces

For a competition of my school, I want to make an Android App which allows placing letters on surfaces or maybe even on landscapes. I’ve definitely enough programming knowledge but I’ve never written an AR App and don’t know with what to start.

What is the best way to implement something like this? What do I need to learn?

Mimicking Vuforia Studio’s ‚Model Target‘ Feature
Mimicking Vuforia Studio's 'Model Target' Feature

Hi all, I’m an artist interested in using AR for animating public signage! I’m looking at recreating the ‚model tracking‘ feature of Vuforia in a WebAR application. I don’t have the hefty funds to release something on Vuforia Studio. Any tips welcome!

TLDR: Model Targetting in WebAR – possible?
