New iPad Pro comes with LiDAR scanner.

LiDAR Scanner

LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is used to determine distance by measuring how long it takes light to reach an object and reflect back. It is so advanced, it’s being used by NASA for the next Mars landing mission. And it’s now been engineered to fit in the thin and light iPad Pro.

The custom-designed LiDAR Scanner uses direct time of flight to measure reflected light from up to five meters away, both indoors and out. It works at the photon level, operates at nanosecond speeds, and opens up tremendous possibilities for augmented reality and beyond.

AR at Home

Hello all I would really like to integrate AR into my house for a party. Describe recipes, show a drink menu, etc. I know I could easily do it with QR , but if I could have a 3d object like a wine cabinet be AR to help with drinks, etc. That would be … Augmented Reality & /u/jkess9

Best free Image Targeting app?

I need to use AR, specifically image targeting, I’ve tried using Unity and I give up on it, so what is the best free app for doing image targeting, with no programming needed?

Triffic Goes Into Public Beta
Triffic Goes Into Public Beta

Hello everybody, I hope this doesn’t come off as a spam post – admins, please feel free to delete if it breaks any rules.

For the last couple of years, my team and I have been working on an app called ‚Triffic‘ – it’s basically a way of gamifying your lifestyle by using augmented reality to monetize your movement and earn cryptocurrency called GPS Tokens (GPS Tokens have been on exchanges for several months and are currently trading at about 20% higher than launch).

Anyway, we’ve been conducting a private beta with a few hundred testers for the last few months, and today we move into our public beta phase – and I’d very much like it if people could test it out and give any constructive feedback on how we can improve things before launch.

Beta testers also get to keep all GPS Tokens that they find on their travels.

Our website is at https://triffic.app, and you will find download instructions for both iOS and Android versions, plus lots more information about the project.

What features do you want in ARKit4? How to make sticker AR experiences?

ARKit 3 introduced people occlusion, motion capture, and collaborative sessions. Despite this, I personally haven’t seen many AR apps that use these new features (Zenia is an app that helps you do yoga w/ mocap but it’s meh at best)? If you know of any, I’d love to try them.

What would be cool in ARKit4? What new features do you think might unlock new AR experiences that consumers will actually want to try?

I ask because I’m really interested in AR, but truthfully find that there aren’t any AR apps right now that hold my interest for more than day or two. Maybe they’re not popular enough yet, maybe we need better ARKit features available to developers? What do you think?

Personally, I don’t know if we need more features to make better AR experiences. Maybe they need to improve the existing SW features (mocap is shaky right now) and then focus on HW by adding a true depth camera for the rear facing input and maybe more advanced U1 chip features.
