My new year resolution was to make a start on my game dev journey instead of daydreaming about how cool it would be to be able to MAKE games! Today I present you my first WEB-APP AR GAME – Butterfly Hunt!
As a team of 4 we have worked together on this for the last 2 weeks! I was mainly responsible for the augmented reality part of things and creating the artwork for the game, such as backgrounds, the 3D butterfly models, avatars and general styling too!
It’s primarily aimed at parents who could occupy their children during the lockdown by sending them on an indoor butterfly hunt! By hiding the markers around the house the kids will have to find them, scan them in and catch the butterfly to save it into their collection!
As you might know, building a native AR app is getting easier by a minute with loads of programs and tools to choose from. However due to hardware limitations we had to opt for a web based AR app. Built in A-Frame, a web based VR coding framework, so most of the challenge came from applying VR logic to AR environments.
Here’s a few images Imgur!
And here’s the website, designed for mobiles and tablets but runs on desktop too: https://www.butterflyhunt.co.uk/
Let me know what you think!

Question for AR community: Can any modern AR glasses block out selected regions of the background?
Let me preface this by saying that I have no experience with AR, and have never used AR glasses in my life. So if this answer is obviously yes, or obviously no, please forgive my ignorance.
That said, I have an idea for a niche application (aviation related), where the glasses would need to be able to block out specific regions of the field of view. The blocked out region would change on the fly (based on the user turning their head), so the glasses would need to be able to change the blocked out region at a reasonable refresh rate.
Is this basic functionality within the range of any modern AR glasses?
Edit: To clarify, I’m not worried about the software side of things. I should be able to pretty easily identify the regions that I need to block out. My question is more about whether or not the AR glasses are able to block out the regions that I identify.

Was Magic Leap’s inability to raise really due to COVID?
I have empathy for all the people who work there who just lost their job or their coworkers. Anyone I knew personally at magic leap was intelligent and passionate. Say what you will about the product, the people were good. Now with that said, the state… Augmented Reality & /u/ARyougoingtothemall
I created a video to show the possibilities of AR in every aspect of life. Hope you enjoy it.
