VR/AR/MR study – call for participants

Hi Everyone!

At the University of Cambridge, UK, we are developing a conceptual framework to help make VR/AR/MR systems safer, more transparent, and more compliant – this is important as we start to move such systems from the entertainment industry and into more ‚high-risk‘ ones such as surgery, manufacturing, aerospace, engineering, etc.

We are looking for VR/AR/MR devs to participate in our study. As a participant, you will have a one-on-one call with me, the study lead. You will be asked to work through a couple of exercises/scenarios and then answer some questions. You will not need any VR/AR/MR equipment, but you will need an external monitor.

We are not evaluating anyone – we are only looking for feedback to both validate and help improve our framework.

If you are a developer building for VR/AR/MR tech and are willing to help us out, please reach out to me via DM.

Thanks!

How would I create an augmented reality of a street in New York City in 1660?

I’d like to create an historic augmented reality tour of the financial district in New York in 1660, where people can walk around and hold up their phones and see what the place might have looked like at the time, aligned to the actual environment? How would I go about doing that?

I see an example in this video of google cloud anchors, though I can’t find any info on how to make it:

Would also be good to know who made it so I can reach out for collaboration or help, since it’s of a location in NYC in 1895. Our project is called Mapping Early New York, through the New Amsterdam History Center. New York City began as New Amsterdam in what is now the financial district, full of homes and taverns and canals and a city wall that was later torn down and called wall street. Currently does not work well for mobile:

Custom Content Management System for AR Apps

I build AR apps in Unity, with flamelink CMS, Firestore DB and AWS S3 storage for addressable assets. As the demand for these AR apps is growing, we want to have a cloud content management system (CMS) where the content (i.e. 3d models) can be stored. … Augmented Reality & /u/fromz1
